NEIL AUSTRIAN NAMED CHAIR OF IWON.COM; BUT WILL STAY AT NFL

NFL President & CEO Neil Austrian has joined startup
Web portal iWon.com as Chair, but he will maintain his role
with the league, according to the AP. The NFL said that
Austrian's positions with the league and the CBS-backed Web
site "would not pose a conflict of interest." NFL Senior
VP/Communications & Government Affairs Joe Browne: "In Mr.
Austrian's view, there is no conflict." Former NBA Senior
VP Bill Daugherty is one of the founders of the site, which
offers a search and directory service, chat rooms and news
(NEWSDAY/AP, 10/6). CBS announced yesterday that it had
acquired a majority stake in iWon.com and that it will
contribute $30M for the site's daily cash giveaways and
provide $70M in ad time and space for the site on its
various media properties (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 10/6). The
INDUSTRY STANDARD's Kenneth Li wrote that the deal "marks
the beginning of [CBS'] portal strategy," and that visitors
"will be offered" content from other CBS properties, such as
MarketWatch and SportsLine (INDUSTRY STANDARD, 10/5).
