SPORTS SITE CUTS QUESTIONABLE POLICY FOR ITS WRITERS

Faced with a policy that was considered to be
"ethically questionable," Sportcut.com said that it had
"rescinded the provision" which allowed writers a chance to
earn money by procuring sports memorabilia from players,
according to David Sweet of the WALL STREET JOURNAL.
Sportcut.com, a Web site launching in October, had stated
that if a writer were to interview an athlete and in the
process obtain a signed piece of memorabilia, "he could post
it for sale on the site and receive a 50% cut of any
revenue." Sportcut changed its policy after Sweet reported
on it in his weekly Internet column. Sportcut.com COO Scott
Brown: "It's a policy that never should have been in the
contract. This is a mistake on our part. We are taking
full responsibility" (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 9/24).
