NAMES & FACES: SORRY, TROY, HALL OF FAME DOESN'T TAKE AMEX

Cowboys QB Troy Aikman tried to use his American
Express card to purchase items at the Pro Football Hall of
Fame in Canton, OH, and was told by the cashier, "I'm sorry
Mr. Aikman. We don't accept American Express," according to
Alex Marvez of the Ft. Lauderdale SUN-SENTINEL. Aikman
then "used another card." Marvez wrote to "score a point"
for official NFL sponsor Visa (SUN-SENTINEL, 8/15).
A HIT ON THEIR HANDS: USA TODAY's "Ad Track" surveys
Gatorade's Michael Jordan/Mia Hamm "Anything You Can Do, I
Can Do Better" TV spot. The "Ad Track" shows that 27% of
those surveyed, a "high score," like the ad "a lot," and
people age 18-29 "liked it best." Quaker Oats President of
U.S. Beverages Sue Wellington said that the ad, which "stops
running this month," has "more awareness among consumers
than other commercials it has aired" (USA TODAY, 8/16).
GOLF'S HOUSE OF STYLE: In Chicago, Rick Morrissey wrote
from Medinah on fashion on the golf course and noted Jesper
Parnevik wearing "tight-fitting baby blue slacks, a white
belt, white shoes, a long-sleeved white shirt and a gold
chain" during the third-round of the PGA Championship.
Parnevik: "It's just the way fashion is in Europe. The
sponsor I'm working with, J. Lindeberg, he's a very avid
golfer and he loved the way people dressed in the '50s and
'60s, when everybody had some style and fashion in golf.
Now he thinks that everybody pretty much dresses the same,
and it's quite boring" (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 8/15)....PGA Tour
player Rich Beem and his caddie each wore Cubs caps during
the PGA Championship, as Beem's "new deal with Callaway ...
hasn't started yet" (USA TODAY, 8/16).
