TONS OF STEEL: ROONEY SAYS STADIUM STACKS WON'T BE "HOKEY"

          Steelers President Dan Rooney said "he'll decide by
     fall whether the new football stadium's southern end will
     have tall stacks that shoot flames and smoke into the air
     whenever the Steelers score a touchdown or win a game,"
     according to Tom Barnes of the PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE.  The
     "Tower of Industry," as Rooney calls it, "would flank one
     side of the south end zone, with a 'Tower of Technology,' on
     the other."   The "Tower of Technology" would be connected
     to video displays on a Jumbotron scoreboard "and other high-
     tech bursts of sound and light."  Rooney said "there could
     be some sort of display when we score," but it "wouldn't be
     hokey. That's one thing we want to make sure of." The
     towers, which could be sponsored, will include "restaurants,
     shops and possibly offices" (POST-GAZETTE, 8/12).
