ON HIGHER GRAVITY: GAMES SET FOR MAMMOTH MOUNTAIN

          Mammoth Mountain, CA, will host the inaugural Winter
     Gravity Games from January 20-23, 2000.  The alternative
     sports and music festival will be broadcast on NBC in
     February. Meanwhile, the purse for the Summer Gravity Games
     has been set at $800,000, and Games officials claim the
     totals for each event are 35-40% higher than any other
     competition.  Purse totals range from $45,000 (Downhill
     Skateboarding) to $172,500 (Bike events) (Gravity Games).
