LEAGUE NOTES

          CBS SportsLine's Mike Kahn writes that marijuana
     testing in the NBA "will sideline more players than
     expected."  One coach, who said "at least half" of the
     players in the league smoke marijuana: "I can't imagine how
     many players smoke pot during the off-season, and if it
     stays in their system as long as some reports say, a huge
     number will test positive" (CBS SportsLine, 7/13)....The
     Independent Atlantic League will formally announce its plans
     to expand to eight teams in 2000 tomorrow at its All-Star
     Game in Bridgeport, CT.  One team will be the Long Island
     Ducks, operated by league CEO and Atlantic City Surf Owner
     Frank Boulton.  The other team will be in MD and be owned by
     the MD Baseball Group (Newark STAR-LEDGER, 7/13).
