MOURNERS HONOR HESS; MURDOCH NAME FLOATED AS POSSIBLE SUITOR

More than 1,000 mourners honored the late Leon Hess at
a funeral service at the Park Avenue Synagogue in Manhattan
yesterday (NEWSDAY, 5/11). Former Jets DL Dennis Byrd:
"There are things that he's done for me, for other people
that I know of, that are incredibly gracious. Somebody that
is truly incredible has left us" (N.Y. POST, 5/11).
PARCELLS SAYS NO: Jets head coach Bill Parcells again
denied reports that he is interested in purchasing the team.
Parcells: "I want to make it known that I am not part of any
group, nor will I ever be part of any group, that attempts
to purchase an equity in the New York Jets." NEWSDAY's Bob
Glauber reports that the team's sale is "expected" to be
handled by team President Steve Gutman, and new potential
bidders mentioned include News Corp. Chair Rupert Murdoch
and AZ developer Sam Grossman (NEWSDAY, 5/11).
