SERGIO TACCHINI ENDS DEAL WITH HINGIS, CITING HER "ATTITUDE"

Sandys, manufacturer of the Sergio Tacchini brand of
apparel, terminated its sponsorship agreement with Martina
Hingis, which was to continue through 2001. In a statement,
Sandys said that Hingis "repeatedly breached her contractual
obligations" requiring her to wear Tacchini apparel and
shoes and cited the Australian Open, where Hingis wore
apparel from another company. Sandys Chair Sergio Tacchini
said that the company has "always designed the collections
to enhance Martina's image, but, of recent, maybe out of bad
advice, she damaged our image and our products because of
her behavior and extremely discrediting statements
concerning her main sponsor. We could not tolerate this
attitude any longer" (Sandys). Hingis has been wearing
Tacchini while playing at the Italian Open (THE DAILY).
