WILL IMG SHOW SOME CART? FIRM WEIGHS CONTRACT EXTENSION

IMG "is mulling over" a three-year contract extension
with CART for its Medic Drug Grand Prix of Cleveland, but
has left open the possibility of obtaining another race
series if negotiations "fall apart," according to Amy
Rosewater of the Cleveland PLAIN DEALER. IMG's current
contract with CART is up after this year's race on June 25-
     27. IMG Motorsports VP Denny Young: "CART officials have an
offer in front of us, but we're apart on dollars right now.
I think they're stretching it on the dollar side." IMG has
contracts with the city and the Federal Aviation Commission
to hold the race at the Burke Lakefront Airport, but whether
"it will be a CART race after this year depends on a new
contract." Both IMG and CART would like to have a deal done
by this summer. The average sanctioning fees for CART's
U.S. races in '98 were $1.3M, and the fee for this year's
Cleveland race is over $2M (Cleveland PLAIN DEALER, 4/22).
