     shoe named after Sonics F Vin Baker.  The ad reads, "Vin
     Baker.  Picked by Jordan.  Checked by no one" (AD AGE, 4/19
     issue). ....Team Licensing Business Managing Editor Jeff
     Sacks, on Starter filing for bankruptcy: "Their signature
     product was the Starter team jacket, and when sales of that
     started to dip, they didn't have much else in place to
     change their emphasis and maintain their presence.  In my
     estimation, they didn't seem to have the market savvy to
     change" (HARTFORD COURANT, 4/22).
          PROMOS: Swatches from an Oilers jersey worn by Wayne
     Gretzky will be "affixed" to trading cards as part of the Be
     A Player hockey card set from In the Game (USA TODAY,
     4/22)....IRL team owners Greg Barnhart and Rick Galles have
     joined to form Barnhart-Galles Motorsports, which "plans to
     compete in at least nine" IRL races this year.  They will be
     sponsored by TX-based Spinal Conquest (AP, 4/21).
