          USA TODAY's Michael Hiestand examines the trend of
     athletes endorsing sunglasses.  Advantage Int'l Senior VP
     Tom George, said the "category simply isn't big enough to
     pay the fees to make it work."  Hiestand reports that "only
     about" 10 PGA Tour players have "formal" sunglass deals,
     which are "generally based on performance incentives paying
     modest amounts, about $15,000 for a major tournament and
     $5,000 for a regular win" (USA TODAY, 4/21)....The Sports
     Authority will discontinue the sales of handguns in all of
     its locations, but will continue to carry firearms used by
     hunters (The Sports Authority)....Rawlings has signed a
     five-year deal to become the official baseball of the NCAA
     (Rawlings)....Chad Maxwell, Operations Manager of Starter's
     Memphis distribution center, said the company filing for
     Chapter 11 will affect the facility, but "at this point
     we're unsure (how)" (Memphis COMMERCIAL APPEAL, 4/21).
          NAMES & FACES: A new Kellogg's ad campaign featuring
     Jeff Gordon, Grant Hill and Sheryl Swoopes launches this
     week.  In addition to ads, the campaign's "Instant Win Game"
     offers a chance to ride in a stock car with Gordon or play
     one-on-one with Hill or Swoopes (Kellogg's).
          DEWING THE DEW AT COCA-COLA SKY FIELD? Braves P Tom
     Glavine signed a one-year deal to endorse PepsiCo's Mountain
     Dew in the Atlanta area.  The campaign runs throughout the
     MLB season and uses radio, outdoor and print ads, as well as
     POP materials.  Woolf Associates handled the deal (Woolf).
