MEDIA NOTES

Fox Sports Net (FSN) "is planning" to organize and
televise a national high school football championship game
in December 2000. FSN is working with Student Sports Inc.
to organize the game and the pair will launch "The Fox
Sports Net Fab 50" high school football rankings this fall.
A group of 35 high school writers "from throughout the
country" will work on the poll (CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, 4/15).
But in San Antonio, David Flores writes that high school
football "doesn't need a national-championship game" and the
Fox plan is "just a bad idea" (S.A. EXPRESS-NEWS, 4/15).
MORE NOTES: In Baltimore, Milton Kent notes that HTS
has added new equipment, camera positions, graphics and
music to its Orioles coverage, making "what already may be
the best local coverage of a team even better." Kent: "The
moves have not only pushed HTS ahead of most regional cable
sports channels, but on a par with ESPN and Fox's weekly
productions" (Baltimore SUN, 4/15)....New CBS NFL analyst
Dan Dierdorf, on leaving ABC's "Monday Night Football": "It
wasn't the most amicable of partings. But this is a real
breath of fresh air. Now I can just go do a football game.
I don't have to worry about all of the politics and scrutiny
that come along with [MNF]" (BOSTON GLOBE, 4/15).
