ISLES SOUND-OFF: In the N.Y. DAILY NEWS, Save The
Islanders Coalition President Steve Ellers wrote on the
team's ownership situation under the header, "Milstein Has
Ruined Isles," and that the NHL "should step in and take
over the team's operations until more suitable owners ...
acquire the club" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 4/11). Also in N.Y.,
Tarik El-Bashir wrote that the Isles "cannot be respectable
until there is stable ownership," and that the Milsteins and
co-Owner Steven Gluckstern will put the team on the market
and entertain offers of $150M or more, down from the $195M
they paid in February '98 (N.Y. TIMES, 4/11). In Toronto,
Tim Wharnsby writes that Islanders fans attended the team's
home finale on Saturday to "voice their displeasure with the
team's dismal season." The game ended with fans chanting,
"We suck, we suck" (TORONTO SUN, 4/12).
49ERS: In S.F., Glenn Dickey writes that the 49ers
ownership "struggle may seem like a soap opera, but it has a
serious side: If a new stadium isn't built, the 49ers may
leave San Francisco" (S.F. CHRONICLE, 4/12). But ESPN's
Chris Mortensen wrote, "Don't necessarily expect the 49ers
to go on the market in the wake of a stunning lawsuit" filed
by the DeBartolo Corp. and co-Owner Denise DeBartolo York
against her brother Eddie DeBartolo, Jr. Mortensen: "Word
is, John York (Denise's husband), is very much enjoying his
appointment as the 49ers' overseer" (ESPN.com, 4/10).
