NAMES IN THE NEWS

          On Sunday's episode of Fox's "THE SIMPSONS," a sign at
     the city limits of Atlanta, the destination of HOMER and
     BART SIMPSON's truck delivery, read: "Welcome to Atlanta --
     Home of TED TURNER's Mood Swings" (THE DAILY).....In Boston,
     Fee & Raposa reported that Toronto-based Warwick Publishing,
     which produced Bills QB DOUG FLUTIE's autobiography, sent a
     letter to Flutie's agent JACK MULA, which stated that Mula
     "had no right" to sell Flutie's life story to CBS because he
     didn't hold such rights (BOSTON HERALD, 3/29)....In Denver,
     Norm Clarke writes that the city's 5280 magazine listed
     Broncos QB JOHN ELWAY as No. 15 on its list of the "25 Most
     Powerful People in Denver," because his "snub of PRESIDENT
     CLINTON and TV commercials campaigning for the Broncos' new
     stadium were 'overt forays into the political arena.'"  The
     issue hits the newsstands later this week (ROCKY MOUNTAIN
     NEWS, 3/29)....Browns Owner AL LERNER announced that MBNA
     Corp. is setting up a 5-year, $10M education initiative for
     Cleveland's public/parochial schools (PLAIN DEALER,
     3/27)....BILL COSBY will read his new children's book, "One
     Dark and Scary Night," to children at the NBA Store in N.Y.
     on Wednesday.  The reading marks the last of three events
     the NBA Store has hosted to celebrate NBA Reading Month
     (NBA)....The N.Y. OBSERVER's William Berlind profiles
     Yankees Owner GEORGE STEINBRENNER's residence in Tampa, FL,
     and writes, "If you want the essential George, ... you won't
     find him in the owner's box at Yankee Stadium, ... you'll
     find him in Tampa. ... He is a local hero and idol of the
     masses" (N.Y. OBSERVER, 3/29 issue).
