MCDONALD'S KEEPS UP WITH SAMMY SOOSER; PESPI WORKS WITH WOOD

On "ET" last night, Bob Goen reported that Cubs RF
Sammy Sosa has filmed a new spot for McDonald's which begins
airing on April 23. The ad features two kids eating on a
sofa, when their parents come home and announce the birth of
a new baby sister. One of the kids responds, "Do over," and
the ad cuts to a "McWorld" graphic. The next scene has the
parents walking in again, with the mother this time
announcing, "Tommy, we're home! I'd like you to meet your
new Sammy Sosa." Sosa, on shooting commercials: "I think
it's going pretty well" ("Entertainment Tonight," 3/25).
WOOD IS PITCHING: In Chicago, Fred Mitchell reports
that PepsiCo will "go ahead with their promotional" campaign
featuring Cubs P Kerry Wood, as it "seems Wood still has
marketing friends in high places," despite his season-ending
elbow injury. The promo includes 20 million commemorative
Pepsi cans with Wood's "smiling visage" and a variety of
other ad elements. Cubs Dir of Promotions & Ad Jay Blunk:
"Pepsi has been a real good supporter and it is sticking by
Kerry, even during this tough time. Advertisers know he has
a long career ahead of him" (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 3/26).
