ADIDAS BEATS NIKE FOR UT TRACK COACH IN HIGH SCHOOL DEMAND

adidas "signed a three-year sponsorship contract" with
Mountain View [UT] High School coach Dave Houle, who has
coached track, cross-country and girls basketball teams to
44 state championships in 24 years, according to Clifton
Schmidt of the DESERET NEWS. The deal is "only the third"
the company has with a high school girls program coach and
is the company's "largest ... in the country for either a
boys or girls coach." The contract includes a "financial
package" for Houle, as well as shoes and uniforms for "all
athletes on teams that Houle coaches and full sponsorship"
of his summer camps. Houle: "It's a good package, and it's
an honor. I'm grateful that adidas took notice." Nike,
along with adidas, approached Houle after a story about him
in USA Today last December, but he turned down a "last gasp
effort Nike made last weekend" (DESERET NEWS, 3/24).
