Motor Speedway's "grand opening of the exclusive" Speedway
Club will begin tomorrow at 8:30pm CT with a concert by
Wayne Newton and a 23-piece orchestra (DALLAS MORNING NEWS,
3/24). In Ft. Worth, Laura Vozzella writes that club
members must pay $1,800 to join, plus a monthly fee of $65.
Amenities include imported crystal chandeliers, a marble
dance floor "flecked" with 24-karat gold and "dining on the
likes of redfish and crawfish ragout" (STAR-TELEGRAM, 3/24).
MORE NOTES: In Milwaukee, Bob Wolfley reports that the
Brewers plan to announce that the "beer garden" in a parking
lot near Miller Park will be sponsored by Klement Sausage
Co. The team is also in talks with TGI Friday's about
operating a sit-down restaurant in Miller Park's left-field
corner (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL-SENTINEL, 3/24)....In Detroit,
Tina Lam writes that the "best views" of Comerica Park are
from cameras the Tigers mounted on the roof that photograph
"the rising stadium and broadcasts the photos every few
minutes" on the team's Web site, www.detroittigers.com
(DETROIT FREE PRESS, 3/24)....Cleveland-based S.W. Franks
and Co. will begin installing a $2.2M heated grass field
this month at the Browns new stadium. Company President Paul
Franks said that the field, the first of its kind in the
NFL, will be completed by June (CRAIN'S CLEVELAND, 3/8
issue)....In Denver, the Regional Transportation District
(RTD) voted to spend $7M to fund the remainder of the $40.6M
light-rail spur connecting the Pepsi Center and new Broncos
stadium with downtown (DENVER POST, 3/24).
