AIN'T AD SLOGANS GREAT? MARINERS UNVEIL NEW AD CAMPAIGN

The Mariners unveiled eight 30-second TV spots for
their "Ain't Baseball Great" ad campaign, according to Bud
Withers of the SEATTLE TIMES, who wrote that the slogan "may
not play well with English teachers, but it's
straightforward and disarming." One spot features the
Mariners Moose mascot waking from a nightmare in which a new
mascot named Lenny the Latte is introduced. As the Moose
sits up, P Jamie Moyer "admonishes, 'I told you. No nachos
before bed.'" Another spot shows P Jeff Fassero in a
supermarket, throwing apples into a catcher's mitt. When he
tries it with an egg, "resulting in a splattered mess, a
voice on the store intercom intones, 'Wild pitch, aisle
four.'" The ads were created by Seattle-based agency
Copacino and filmed in three days during February in Peoria,
AZ, by WA-based Blue Goose Productions. The campaign
replaces the "Ya Gotta Love These Guys" campaign of the past
three seasons, named MLB's best in '98 by Baseball Weekly.
Both were created by Copacino (SEATTLE TIMES, 3/18).
