HYPERION PAY? TITANS CLOSE TO RIGHTS DEAL FOR NEW STADIUM

The Titans "are holding serious discussions" with
     "fast-growing" Pittsburgh-based telecom services provider
Hyperion Communications for stadium naming rights, according
to Pinkston & Legwold of the Nashville TENNESSEAN. Hyperion
"is considering" paying more than $2M annually for 10-15
years to place its name on the new $292M stadium. Titans
Exec VP Don MacLachlan: "We've had some pretty good
discussions." Hyperion is "one of the largest competitive
local exchange carriers" in the eastern U.S. (TENNESSEAN,
3/18). In Nashville, Liz Murray Garrigan writes that the
proposed stadium name is "Hyperion Coliseum." Such a name
"would play on the Greek mythology theme that the words
Titans and Hyperion conjure up. The Titans were a race of
giant deities overthrown by the Olympian gods. Hyperion was
a Titan and the father of the sun" (NASHVILLE SCENE, 3/18).
PREDATORS PREY-ING FOR A NAME: In Nashville, Pinkston &
Legwold write that the Predators "don't appear any closer"
to selling naming rights for their arena. BellSouth is one
of the companies "that passed" on the "upward" of $2M
annually the team is seeking (TENNESSEAN, 3/18).
