IF LEMIEUX ASSUMES LOSSES, MARINO WILL WALK AWAY FROM PENS

Penguins co-Owner Roger Marino "is willing to walk
away" from the team if Mario Lemieux's investment group "is
willing to shoulder the team's annual losses," according to
Ann Belser of the PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE. However, Marino
attorney Harry Manion said that the team owner won't leave
"unless some of his terms are satisfied," including a $5M
payment and a stipulation stating that "the new ownership
can't just gut the team to save money." Marino will let
U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Bernard Markovitz decide whether the
$37.5M he invested in the team is "equity, which would not
be returned, or unsecured credit," which would offer partial
repayment when the team is sold (POST-GAZETTE, 3/10).
