WANTED: AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLER FOR DOWNTOWN TORONTO ARENAS

A member of the Sportsco group looking to acquire the
SkyDome tells Marty York of the Toronto GLOBE & MAIL that if
the group takes over the facility, it will approach Canadian
Airlines about a naming rights deal. The source said, "I
don't think you have to be a genius to understand our
rationale. The Air Canada Centre is the name of the new
stadium in downtown Toronto. ... Well, we think it would
only be sensible that Canadian Airlines would want to combat
their main rival." Canadian Airlines has naming rights to
the Saddledome in Calgary, and sources said the airline
"would be interested in becoming involved with" the Blue
Jays and the Argonauts. York writes it would be "smart
business for" Canadian Airlines "to compete head to head
against Air Canada, and, indirectly, against the Maple Leafs
and Raptors" (Marty York, Toronto GLOBE & MAIL, 2/11).
