I'D LIKE TO SAY I KNEW YOU, BUT I DIDN'T: A'S DROP STATION

The A's have dropped their flagship station KNEW-AM in
favor of its sister station KABL-AM in an "unexpected move,"
according to Susan Slusser of the S.F. CHRONICLE. A's
Senior Dir of Broadcasting Ken Pries made the move after
seeing the demographics for KABL, which showed the station
ranking higher than KNEW for adults 25-54. But Pries was
"apprehensive" about moving the team's radio home so "close
to the start" of the season. Marketers for KNEW, an adult-
contemporary station, "felt that personality-driven KABL"
was a "better fit" for baseball. Slusser also reported that
former A's player Dennis Eckersley is "expected" to join the
broadcasts "in some capacity" (S.F. CHRONICLE, 2/9).
