          USSF President ROBERT CONTIGUGLIA said he "backs" FIFA
     President SEPP BLATTER's proposal to hold the World Cup
     evert two years (USA TODAY, 1/22).... BABYCENTER.COM has
     created the Sports Event Conflict Catcher and Conception
     Blocker, a database program that "allows parents to enter in
     the anticipated [birthdate of their baby] and determine
     which of the 3,000 sporting events they are likely to miss
     as a result" (ATLANTA CONSTITUTION, 1/21)....EVANDER
     HOLYFIELD and Atlanta chef JOHN AKHILE will open HOLYFIELD'S
     NEW SOUTH GRILL in Sandy Springs, GA, in March.  The
     restaurant will feature a 14-seat, glass-enclosed chef's
     table in the kitchen at which people can eat "contemporary
     American cuisine with a Southern accent" for $75-100 a
     person (ATLANTA CONSTITUTION, 1/22)....PRESIDENT CLINTON
     will congratulate the RED WINGS on their Stanley Cup victory
     upon their January 28 White House visit (NHL)....PERCY
     "MASTER P" MILLER, who was signed to the Hornets training
     camp roster: "I'll show people that if SHAQ can rap, Master
     P can play basketball" (Greensboro NEWS & RECORD, 1/22).
     Hornets coach DAVE COWENS: "I'll call him Percy.  A coach
     can't call a player Master" (CHARLOTTE OBSERVER,
     1/22)....Coyotes D TEPPO NUMMINEN has purchased the Finnish-
     based company Montreal, which manufactures hockey sticks. 
     The company has "cut out a nice youth-oriented market in
     retail stores, primarily in Europe" (AZ REPUBLIC, 1/17).
