NAMES IN THE NEWS

          Chiefs Owner and MLS Operator LAMAR HUNT said Tuesday
     "that he is undergoing treatment for prostate cancer."  The
     cancer was detected last September.  Asked whether he was
     given a prognosis, Hunt said, "They are always optimistic
     treatmentwise, so that's the challenge for midwinter. You
     just move forward" (K.C. STAR, 1/20)....Senators C ALEXEI
     YASHIN has told Ottawa's National Arts Centre (NAC)
     officials that "he is pulling the plug" on his C$1M donation
     to the theatre and opera house, the reason for which remains
     "a mystery" (OTTAWA SUN, 1/20).  Senators President & CEO
     ROY MLAKAR: "He is certainly entitled to decide how he
     spends his money or which charities he chooses to benefit"
     (Senators).  The CP reports that Yashin cited "'personal
     reasons'" (CP, 1/20)...."Fox Sports News" anchor KEITH
     OLBERMANN, on SAMMY SOSA's reception at the State of the
     Union address: "The Cubs slugger actually got the longest
     sustained applause of the night ... He was just stopping by
     Washington to drop off some Dominican cigars for the
     President ... Uh, no" ("Fox Sports News," 1/19)....Speedo
     spokesperson SABIR MUHAMMAD and softball players GILLIAN
     BOXX and TRINITY JOHNSON will appear on behalf of paper
     company Champion Int'l's G.A.M.E. (Getting Ahead Means
     Education) program.  The athletes will address middle school
     students in Waycross, GA, tomorrow (Stars & Strategies).
