JUMBOSPORTS RESHUFFLING CONTINUES; 17 MORE STORES TO CLOSE

FL-based JumboSports will close 17 stores, leaving the
"ailing" company with "nearly half what it once had,"
according to Kris Hundley of the ST. PETERSBURG TIMES.
JumboSports CFO Ray Springer said that the chain expects to
earn $30M through the liquidation of inventory, plus
"additional money" by selling the eight stores it owns.
Springer: "The 17 stores we're closing were losing money"
(ST. PETE TIMES, 1/20). JumboSports spokesperson Rachel
Nelson said that a reorganization plan has yet to be filed
with bankruptcy court (ARIZONA DAILY STAR, 1/20). The
closings now leave the company with 42 stores in 18 states,
down from a high of 85 stores in '95 (TAMPA TRIBUNE, 1/20).
