THUMBING THEIR NOSE AT COKE: COURT BATTLE AHEAD AT PAC BELL?

Opponents of the MLB Giants' planned Coke bottle as the
centerpiece of a children's play area in Pac Bell Park
"tried unsuccessfully again yesterday to smash" the idea and
"ended up warning that they may go to court to try to block
it," according to Edward Epstein of the S.F. CHRONICLE.
Opponents "attacked" Coke as being "bad for children's
health," since it contributes "to everything from tooth
decay to nervousness and kidney stones." City Supervisor
Tom Ammiano "urged" the two sides to continue to negotiate
design changes to the bottle, although it has already been
approved by the Port, Redevelopment and Planning commissions
and "there is nothing the supervisors can do to block" the
construction. The Giants will receive as much as $20M from
     Coke for the bottle/playground (S.F. CHRONICLE, 1/20).
