JUDGE'S RULING INCREASES NCAA COACHES PAYOUT BY ANOTHER $7M

U.S. District Judge Kathryn Vratil has added "another"
$7M "or so to the NCAA's crippling restricted-earnings
verdict," according to Steve Rock of the K.C. STAR. Ruling
on "post-trial motions," Vratil granted the plaintiffs'
request for an "inflation adjustment" that adds nearly $5M
to the total verdict. That, combined with the interest
rates which "are growing at about" $300,000 a month, puts
the NCAA total at more than $74M it owes to around 2,000
coaches in the suit. Vratil "also rejected more than 100
pages of the NCAA's post-trial motions, including one for a
new trial." The NCAA will now likely appeal to the 10th
Circuit Court of Appeals in CO. A settlement seems
"unlikely," as lawyers for the coaches say they "haven't
heard" from the NCAA in "months" (K.C. STAR, 1/17).
