NAMES IN THE NEWS

          UEFA said that it was "rejecting" FIFA President SEPP
     BLATTER's proposal to hold the World Cup every two years "on
     sporting, medical and commercial grounds" (Reuters, 1/12).
     ...News Corp. Chair RUPERT MURDOCH, on Blatter's proposal:
     "There's no reason why [the World Cup] should not be staged
     every second year.  If we don't have a World Cup between
     countries every two years, maybe it would be right to have,
     in between the quadrennial World Cup, a World Cup of clubs"
     (LONDON TIMES, 1/13)....WAYNE HUIZENGA and his wife donated
     $1M to be shared by the United Way organizations in Martin
     and St. Lucie counties in FL (AP, 1/14)....In N.Y., Mitchell
     Fink reports that SAMMY SOSA's agent, ADAM KATZ, said his
     client would "be a no-show" for the CONGRESS OF RACIAL
     EQUALITY event Monday in N.Y. unless he was "provided ...
     with a round-trip private jet" from Santa Domingo to N.Y. 
     Fink: "Imagine how they reacted at CORE, a nonprofit civil
     and human-rights organization."  A CORE spokesperson was
     unaware of the demands while Katz did not respond to calls
     (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 1/14)....Twelve NFL players will appear on
     the "WHEEL OF FORTUNE 'NFL PLAYERS WEEK'" during the Super
     Bowl week of January 25-29.  Shows were taped in early
     December with each player partnering with a fan from his
     team's city.  Contestants vied for a five-day/four-night
     trip to Miami for Super Bowl XXXIII (Players Inc).
