FRANCHISE NOTES

In Nashville, Leon Tucker reported that the Predators
"have struck a deal" to lease the "giant" sign above the
Broadway-West End Avenue split for its "Hockey Tonk" ads,
though no financial details were disclosed. Predators Exec
VP/Business Operations Tom Ward called it "the marquee
position in town" (TENNESSEAN, 1/13)....In DC, Mark Maske
reports that an NFL official said that league owners will
not vote on the proposed sale of the Redskins to Howard
Milstein and Daniel Snyder before February 16. Milstein and
Snyder "had hoped" to be approved this month (WASHINGTON
POST, 1/14). Also in DC, Rudolph Pyatt writes that John Kent
Cooke "was so certain" that he and his investment group
"would prevail" in the bidding for the Redskins, "that he
prepared a draft statement Friday announcing that the team
and the stadium would remain under the control of his
family." However, sources said trustees were negotiating
with the Milstein group "even as Cooke prepared to declare
victory" (WASHINGTON POST, 1/14)....In Jacksonville, Jaguars
head coach Tom Coughlin signed a four-year contract
extension yesterday that "is believed to be worth between"
     $2.4M and $2.6M per season (FLORIDA TIMES-UNION, 1/14).
IBL: Sega Gaming Corp. President & CEO Doug Sanderson
is "attempting to put together a local ownership group that
can afford and is willing to commit" $2M over two years to
bring an IBL team to Las Vegas. IBL President Thaxter
Trafton: "We want Las Vegas. We love that city" (L.V.
REVIEW-JOURNAL, 1/13). The current issue of SAN DIEGO
MAGAZINE profiles the area's "50 People To Watch For 1999,"
with the IBL listed first (SAN DIEGO MAGAZINE, 1/99).
