LEAGUE NOTES

In N.Y., Mike Freeman wrote that NFLPA Exec Dir Gene
Upshaw said "he believed" that "at least" 25% of NFL teams
use surveillance cameras in the locker room. Ravens Owner
Art Modell: "Some teams are using surveillance equipment in
the locker room, yes. But I'd fire the first guy who did
that here." Freeman wrote that those interviewed believed
the reasons for cameras "varied from a desire to provide
better security for the players, to watching and learning as
much about them as possible" (N.Y. TIMES, 1/8)...Turner
Sports VP Dave Maggard said that Turner "discussed" a new
football league "with a potential owner in San Antonio
several months ago." Sources said that Spurs reps have
"informally discussed investing in the project" if the city
gets a team. Maggard "expects" more info on the league to
be released "by late February" (EXPRESS-NEWS, 1/11).
