NFL FRANCHISE NOTES: OILERS TO GET TITANIC LOOK TOMORROW

          The NFL and the Oilers will hold a press conference
     tomorrow to unveil the new Titans logo, according to Paul
     Kuharsky of the Nashville TENNESSEAN.  An NFL source said
     that the announcement "will strictly pertain to the logo"
     and new uniforms "will not be unveiled until after New
     Year's."  David Singleton of the Tennessee Sports Fan Pro
     Shop has heard that the logo is "somehow relatively similar"
     to the Univ. of TN logo.  Singleton, on the league, NFLP,
     and Oilers Owner Bud Adams trying to keep "every step of his
     team's name-change and redesign top secret": "It seems to me
     on the outside looking in that Bud Adams and [NFLP] and Logo
     Athletic are on such different pages" (TENNESSEAN, 12/19).
          FROM THE END ZONE: The Oilers will finish last in the
     NFL in average attendance for the third straight year.  With
     one game left against the Vikings, the Oilers are averaging
     36,990, a 40% increase from last season in Memphis (HOUSTON
     CHRONICLE, 12/20)....Browns President Carmen Policy, on
     potentially choosing Heisman Trophy winner Ricky Williams
     with the first pick in the NFL draft, after Williams said
     his "first love" is baseball: "I would not be able in my
     mind to justify using a top pick in the first round of the
     draft with the foreknowledge that we would be sharing that
     talent with another sport" (AKRON BEACON JOURNAL, 12/20).
