MEDIATOR SMOOTHES THE ICE BETWEEN WHITE PINE AND CBC

          A settlement has been reached in the "bitter dispute"
     between the producers of "The New Ice Age" and the CBC,
     according to William Houston of the Toronto GLOBE & MAIL. 
     The "battle" between White Pine Pictures and the CBC "was
     sparked by the network's editing of footage," though there
     were "accusations White Pine was late in delivering the
     product," for which it was imposed a penalty by the CBC.  
     Sources say, after meeting with a mediator, White Pine
     "received a financial settlement" from CBC.  A book based on
     the series, which had been held up by the litigation, will
     be released in the spring to coincide with the Stanley Cup
     playoffs (William Houston, Toronto GLOBE & MAIL, 12/18).
          EMOTIONAL GOODBYE? The TORONTO STAR's Chris Zelkovich
     reports that the CBC is preparing a documentary on Maple
     Leaf Gardens that will air before the Leafs' final game in
     the arena, scheduled for February 13 (TORONTO STAR, 12/18).
