NEW BOWL GAME, EH? TORONTO GETTING COLLEGE POSTSEASON GAME?

Organizers of the World College Bowl (WCB), a proposed
U.S. college football bowl game in Toronto, have submitted
an official application to the NCAA, according to John Kryk
of the TORONTO SUN. The WCB, which would be held at SkyDome
the Saturday before Christmas in '99, received the required
US$2M line of credit from a U.S. bank earlier this week.
The group must still make a presentation to the NCAA bowl
certification committee in April (TORONTO SUN, 12/18).
TAR HEELS PAYING OUT: The Univ. of NC (UNC) will
likely "absorb 6,000 unsold tickets" for this weekend's Las
Vegas Bowl. As part of the bowl contract, UNC was "required
to purchase" an allotment of 8,500 tickets, 2,500 of which
have been sold. UNC Dir of Ticket Ops Daren Lucas: "That's
pretty good interest considering everything. It's a
difficult trip for a lot of our fans." The unsold tickets
will cost UNC approximately $270,000. UNC's opponent, San
Diego State, "is expected" to sell its entire allotment of
tickets (Kevin Iole, LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL, 12/18).
