THE SWEETEST MARKETER IN SPORTS? FLUTIE'S CANDY BAR DEAL

Bills QB Doug Flutie is "joining" Buffalo-based
Fowler's Chocolates to create the Flutie Flakes candy bar,
"which combines milk chocolate and, of course, pieces of
Flutie Flakes," according to Sharon Linstedt of the BUFFALO
NEWS. A portion of the sales of the chocolate bar will go
to the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation which assists families
with autistic children. The candy bar, which retails for
$1, will be available in all seven Fowler's shops and "will
soon be sold" at Flutie-endorsed Wegmans Markets. Fowler's
is "geared up to meet demand" for the new product, given the
"surprising popularity" of the Flutie Flakes cereal and
yesterday's announcement of Flutie's selection to the Pro
Bowl. Fowler's Owner Ted Marks, on the possibility of
having to update the candy to a Flutie Flakes Super Bowl
Bar: "That's a problem I think both the company and Doug
Flutie would like to have" (BUFFALO NEWS, 12/17).
