MARKETPLACE ROUND-UP

          SD-based Sempra Energy, which last week signed a 10-
     year marketing deal with the Staples Center, could be
     looking for additional sports marketing opportunities to
     build brand awareness.  Sempra CEO Richard Farman: "We're
     leading the way among energy services companies in entering
     the sophisticated world of sports marketing."  But company
     execs "played down any interest in naming rights" for the
     Padres new ballpark (SAN DIEGO DAILY TRANSCRIPT, 12/8).
     ...Mott's has signed Boomer Esiason as the official '99
     spokesperson for the company's Mr. and Mrs. T and Holland
     House mixer brands.  Esiason will represent Mott's through
     POS promos, sweepstakes offers, guest appearances and a
     national radio and print campaign.  NJ-based ISI handles
     Esiason's marketing (Mott's)....Qwest Communications has
     signed as the "Official Communications Company" of the ECHL
     for the '98-99 season.  The deal allows Qwest to conduct an
     affinity program and gives the company presence at the '99
     ECHL All-Star Game and Skills Competition (ECHL).
