FORSTMANN, ONCE PART OF OVITZ'S L.A. GROUP, BIDS FOR SKINS

Wall Street investor Ted Forstmann is "now reportedly
one of 10 bidders trying to purchase" the Redskins,
according to T.J. Simers of the L.A. TIMES. Forstmann was
"believed" to be "one of the major players in financing a
proposed" $350M stadium as part of Michael Ovitz's attempt
to bring an NFL expansion team to L.A. Ovitz, who was
"unaware" of Forstmann's bid for the Redskins: "It doesn't
really affect our situation because he was not one of our
main investors, and with only 10 equity interests, if
necessary, one can be replaced real easily." Ovitz also
said that if Forstmann's bid for the Redskins fails, he will
"still be included" in the Carson group (L.A. TIMES, 11/25).
800-POUND ORIOLE? In DC, Eric Fisher writes that,
according to a source close to the Redskins sale talks,
Orioles Owner Peter Angelos "could emerge as the '800-pound
gorilla' in the bidding" for the team, because he could
personally receive "as much as" $500M for his role as MD's
lead attorney in the state's legal settlement with tobacco
companies. The source: "If he wants it bad enough, there's
no one who ultimately can bid more." Fisher also reports
that sources say that "at least" two more bid groups remain
unknown (Eric Fisher, WASHINGTON TIMES, 11/25).
