During the past three weeks, Vikings Owner Red McCombs
has "parlayed" his team's on-field success to produce 15
team partnerships with "major" companies like Burger King,
Target, Sony and Valvoline and "dozens" of other smaller
deals, according to Aron Kahn of the ST. PAUL PIONEER PRESS.
The combination of a winning team and "marketing moxie" has
"apparently" doubled the team's promotional revenue since a
year ago. The Vikings now have "more than" 250 corporate
partnerships. Burger King spokesperson Scott Spahn said
that with McCombs, the Vikings "seem to have a whole new
attitude about this kind of thing now." Burger King will
run a promotion beginning December 15 offering a poster of
WRs Cris Carter, Jake Reed and Randy Moss for $1.99 with the
purchase of a Value Meal. The poster is the same as one
sold at the Metrodome for $10, but this one will include the
Burger King logo. Target distributed "Purple Pride"
terrycloth towels at last Sunday's Bengals game and they
will also be distributed at Vikings home playoff games
(PIONEER PRESS, 11/22). In MN, Sid Hartman has the Vikings'
corporate income "up more than" $2M over last year and that
it "could be a record" $5M this year (STAR TRIBUNE, 11/23).
