BOWDEN ENDORSEMENT DEALS SACKED AFTER HIS RESIGNATION

After resigning on Friday, former Auburn Coach Terry
Bowden can no longer "lay claim to the hundreds of thousands
of dollars of endorsement deals" that came with the
position, according to Michael Tomberlin of the BIRMINGHAM
NEWS. Bowden's endorsement deals were "estimated" to be
worth $600,000 annually and many companies in partnership
with Bowden "reacted immediately" to his departure. Great
Southern Wood/Osmose has "already pulled" its Bowden ads as
the company's Marketing Dir James Riley said, "Without
(Bowden) as coach, there was a question as to whether or not
we had the right to continue running the spots with him in
them. Until we have a feel for what Auburn's next move will
be, we will replace those commercials with ones without
Terry." Winn-Dixie Marketing Dir Gus Bergstrom said the
grocery store will replace its Bowden ads, which constitute
"about" 20% of its Auburn football advertising, with
"generic" company ads (BIRMINGHAM NEWS, 10/27).
