Sergio Tacchini's Alessandro Tacchini, whose company
pays Martina Hingis almost $3M a year in an apparel and shoe
deal, said he believes Hingis is trying to "get out of her
contract," with the Italian company, according to Mitchell
Fink of the N.Y. DAILY NEWS. Hingis has recently complained
about the fit of her shoes and the design of her on-court
apparel. Tacchini: "We are doing anything we can to please
her. Our feeling is that whatever we give her will never be
okay." Fink reported that after hearing of Hingis' foot
woes, Tacchini "promised to send the company's own
handpicked podiatrist to examine Hingis at home in Zurich
and to get a new plaster cast of her feet." Tacchini
instead "summoned" Hingis to Milan for an examination, which
Hingis called "a waste of time." Tacchini has also
"promised" Hingis new clothing and shoes before she plays in
the Chase Championships at MSG next month. Tacchini: "There
is nothing wrong with her feet or the shoes except that she
is growing, she's gained some weight and her feet probably
need new shoes" (Mitchell Fink, N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 10/25).
