IN RARE INTERVIEW, RED SOX' HARRINGTON TALKS UP HIS TEAM

Red Sox CEO John Harrington spoke to Will McDonough of
the BOSTON GLOBE and said that should the team fail to
advance to the ALCS, it will cost the Red Sox "about a
million dollars." Harrington: "Virtually all the money from
the first three games in a series goes to the players and
expenses. ... But if we win, we can start to make money, and
that would be significant for our future." Harrington also
said that "some people are talking about a 10-year deal" for
Red Sox TV rights that "might get up around" $400M. But he
doubted if such a deal would be signed soon, saying "it will
happen two or three years from now." Harrington also said
that the team "will have to make a hard decision" in January
about whether or not they can afford a new ballpark, and
that "at the earliest," the Red Sox would be thinking about
playing in the ballpark in 2004 (BOSTON GLOBE, 9/28).
