WHITE HOUSE ESTABLISHES OLYMPIC TASK FORCE; GORE TO LEAD

Just as the SLOC revealed a new budget with "an
expectation" of $171M in federal aid, the White House formed
a task force to help with the "planning and operation" of
the 2002 Winter Olympics and Paralympics, according to Mike
Gorrell of the SALT LAKE TRIBUNE. VP Al Gore was named task
force Chair, while Mickey Ibarra and Thurgood Marshall Jr.
will serve as Vice Chairs. Ibarra said that the Clinton
Administration "was not surprised" by the SLOC's $171M
figure, and "vowed" to work with UT's Congressional
delegation "to secure support" (SALT LAKE TRIBUNE, 9/27).
