WILL GOLF SPONSORS PAY UP FOR PLAYERS' TRAVEL FARE?

The "fledgling" Tour Players Association's "proposed
weekly stipend to help offset travel expenses for players
who miss the cut could be a sore point for tournament
sponsors," according to "The Forecaddie" in GOLFWEEK. "The
Forecaddie" reports, "Word is PGA Tour commissioner Tim
Finchem has informed tournament directors that any such
stipends would be paid above and beyond the tournament's
prize purse." One director, when asked if tournaments would
be willing to ask sponsors to pay the extra expenses: "No
way! We're all tapped out" (GOLFWEEK, 9/19 issue).
