NCAA LOOKING TO HOLD ON TO PERSONNEL IN MOVE TO KANSAS CITY

The NCAA announced that 35% of its staff would not make
the move to the new Indianapolis offices, according to Steve
Rock of the K.C. STAR. Of 276 staff members, 180 have
"indicated they will be moving." This figure "[bodes] well
for the NCAA, which will be moving from Overland Park, KS,
before the '99-2000 academic year. NCAA Dir of PR Wally
Renfro: "These are encouraging numbers." However, the NCAA
said that since the employees who indicated they are moving
"aren't bound" to their decisions, more turnover may occur.
Thirty-four administrative-level employees will be leaving
the organization. Some NCAA "insiders" are already feeling
their resources depleted. One NCAA employee: "It's just
not a good place to be. We're seeing it already." About
128 of 162 administrative-level employees will make the
move, but 62 of the 114 support staff will not. Renfro:
"There's an appropriate level of concern about how we're
going to deal with the situation" (K.C. STAR, 9/23).
