SEAHAWKS FEEL LITTLE LOVE IN SEATTLE WITH STADIUM DELAY

Saturday's groundbreaking for the Seahawks' new stadium
"has been postponed due to an ongoing dispute over the
terms" of team Owner Paul Allen's lease, according to Leslie
Brown of the Tacoma NEWS TRIBUNE. The stadium board and
First & Goal Inc., Allen's company overseeing stadium
construction, are still in the midst of what one board
member called "feverish negotiations" over issues, including
rent, reserves to be set aside for stadium maintenance and
the role of the public stadium board in providing oversight.
Board Member Robert Dilger: "We want oversight, and we don't
want that oversight defined by Paul Allen." While the board
wants to see that enough money from ticket sales is set
aside for stadium maintenance, Dilger said Allen's
representatives don't want them "to have that kind of
authority, fearing the board could price tickets too high
and put a dent in attendance." Construction on the stadium
is scheduled to begin this fall (Tacoma NEWS TRIBUNE, 9/15).
