IS DALLAS LOOKING TO INTERCEPT ARLINGTON OLYMPIC TORCH?

Dallas could replace Arlington as North Texas'
candidate to host the 2012 Olympics as early as next week if
it receives approval from the Dallas City Council, according
to Mede Nix of the FT. WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM. The City
Council "will be briefed tomorrow on the logistics of
launching the Olympic bid and, if there is no major
opposition," will vote September 9 to "become the lead city
in the Olympic bid and begin the process to change the host
name in the bid from Arlington to Dallas" (FT. WORTH STAR-
TELEGRAM, 9/1). In Dallas, Robert Ingrassia reports that
the Dallas Citizens Council, a group of business execs, is
supporting the city's bid to host the 2012 Olympics (DALLAS
MORNING NEWS, 9/1). Council President Donna Halstead said
"the group will try to raise" $3M to $5M to pay for Dallas'
Olympic bid (Mede Nix, FT. WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM, 9/1).
