KAUFFMAN NOW REPORTEDLY OUT AS INVESTOR IN ROYALS GROUP

Julia Irene Kauffman, daughter of late Royals Owner
Ewing Kauffman, has not invested in Miles Prentice's group
bidding to buy the Royals, according to Jeffrey Flanagan of
the K.C. STAR. According to sources close to the process,
Kauffman "never actually committed" to the group. She did
have conversations with Prentice about three weeks ago, but
"backed out when word leaked to the news media" about her
interest. Kauffman could not be reached (K.C. STAR, 9/1).
STADIUM RENOVATIONS: In K.C., Rasheeda Crayton reports
that Kauffman Stadium will undergo $11M in improvements,
"regardless of who owns the team." Royals Senior VP/
Business Operations & Administration Art Chaudry said a deal
was reached Monday with the Jackson County Sports Authority.
He added that as part of the sale of the team, "any new
owner will have to accept whatever has been negotiated with
the sports authority." The renovations will include 160 on-
field box seats and public dugout suites (K.C. STAR, 9/1).
