          The Raiders-Cardinals game at the Oakland Coliseum on
     Saturday drew 31,858, the smallest Coliseum crowd for a
     Raiders game since '67 (S.F. EXAMINER, 8/30)....More than
     6,000 pilots shut down Northwest Airlines this past weekend,
     grounding all of Northwest's 400 airplanes.  Northwest
     currently handles charter services for nine NFL teams: the
     Vikings, Bills, Patriots, Raiders, Oilers, Lions, Eagles,
     Bucs and Packers (THE DAILY)....The Broncos have settled a
     class-action lawsuit brought by fans who were not allowed to
     sell rights to their season tickets during a change in
     ticket policy in '95.  Once the $400,000 settlement is
     divided up between the fans and attorneys, each fan will get
     an average of $100.  The team has since changed its ticket
     policy, allowing ticket holders to transfer ticket rights
     (DENVER POST, 8/28)....Stars & MLB Rangers Owner Tom Hicks
     talked to Randy Galloway of the FT. WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM and
     discussed a rumor that he may buy the Mavericks: "I tried to
     buy the team once before. ... But things have gone in a
     different direction."  But Galloway adds, "In the future, it
     would not be a surprise if Hicks adds the Mavericks to his
     ownership cartel" (STAR-TELEGRAM, 8/31). ...In Cleveland,
     Tony Grossi reported that Browns bidder Howard Milstein was
     "told by league officials to remove the Browns and Countdown
     to '99 logos from his Cleveland Sports Ventures Web site. 
     He complied" (Cleveland PLAIN DEALER, 8/30).
