SOCCER, FIGURE SKATING SEE GAIN IN FAN SIZE; NHL SEES DROP

          ESPN Chilton Sports Poll focused on three sports during     the first half of '98 that received major media exposure --     pro soccer, the NHL and figure skating -- and examined     whether there was a change in their fan base size.  ESPN     Chilton interviewed 11,116 respondents ages 12+ from January     to July in '97 and 14,081 in '98, and indexed the percentage     of respondents interested in those sports in '98 versus '97.      The survey has a margin of error of +/- 2% (ESPN Chilton):
