T-WOLVES SAY THEY DON'T HAVE FARGO TO HIT WNBA MINIMUM

T-Wolves marketing execs are "anxious" with only a few
days remaining to collect about 250 more $50 season-ticket
deposits to reach the WNBA-mandated 5,000 minimum, according
to Sheila Mulrooney Eldred of the Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE.
By Tuesday, the team had received 4,742 (Minneapolis STAR
TRIBUNE, 8/28). In St. Paul, Gary Olson writes that it
"appears likely" that enough $50 season-tickets deposits
will be sold. T-Wolves VP/Sales & Marketing Chris Wright
said the team has received between 80 and 100 daily ticket
commitments as the deadline approaches (PIONEER PRESS, 8/28)
HEAT SEEKS WNBA TEAM: In Miami, Barry Jackson reports
that the Heat has applied for a WNBA expansion team for the
2000 season -- looking for a second sports tenant for its
new arena. Heat President/Business Operations Jay Cross: "I
think our chances are very good" (MIAMI HERALD, 8/28).
PHOENIX RISING: Last night's Comets-Mercury Game One of
the WNBA Finals in Phoenix drew 13,634 (AZ REPUBLIC, 8/28).
