A WHITEWATER STORY? NO, MCDOUGALL NAMED....SKYDOME BOSS

The SkyDome will name Patrick McDougall as its new
president today, and he "will not have an easy mission ahead
of him," according to Marty York of the Toronto GLOBE &
MAIL. McDougall, who was TSN President of Network Sales,
"will attempt to breathe new life into the SkyDome." With
its tenants, the Blue Jays and CFL Argonauts, facing
"decreased fan support," the SkyDome is also facing "major
competition" from the Air Canada Centre under construction.
York adds that the 10-year leases for the SkyDome's 161
luxury boxes expire next year, and "many corporations have
indicated that they will not retain their boxes at the Dome
and will instead" move to the Air Canada Centre. The teams'
SkyDome leases expire after next year, and York adds, "One
gets the impression ... that relations between the Jays and
the SkyDome are less than amicable these days" (GLOBE &
MAIL, 8/20). McDougall fills a position that has been
vacant since Paul Beeston left Toronto to become COO of MLB.
George Taylor served as an interim CEO (TORONTO SUN, 8/20).
